Botox® contains a specially prepared naturally occurring protein that originates from bacteria. It has been used in practice for more than ten years confirming the established safety profile of treatment with Botox®.
A minute quantity of Botox® is injected through a fine needle into the muscles that cause dynamic lines, for example frown lines. The injection temporarily prevents nerve signals from reaching the muscles and as a result the muscles relax and lines appear smoother and less defined.

Botox® is not recommended during pregnancy or lactation. Any family history of muscle weakness such as ‘Bells Palsy’ or myasthenia gravis. Patients with a known sensitivity to any ingredients in Botox®. Co administration of amino glycosides or other agents interfering with neuro muscular transmission. Bleeding disorders or anti coagulent therapy.
Side effects are usually temporary and mild to moderate. As with all prescription medication side effects are usually short lived and often linked to the injection. eg pain on injection, redness, bruising, swelling. In some cases patient may experience a mild headache and ptosis (drooping of the eyelid)
Treatment can take as little as ten minutes and most people will return to normal activity immediately afterwards. Botox® should only be injected by an experienced injector who can ensure that the correct amount is injected in precisely the right places to achieve the desired natural look. This smoothing effect can last up to 3-4 months.
There are three types of chemical peels, Superficial, Medium and Deep.
